Recipe - Anzac Day Red Poppy Flower Cookies

Let's honour ANZAC Day with the Red Poppy Flower cookies. Join together and pay tribute to our heroes. 

 

Ingredients

  • 250gm Softened Unsalted Butter 13⁄4 Cups Icing Sugar
  • 1 Large Egg
  • 3 Teaspoons Vanilla
  • 3 1⁄2 Cups Plain Flour
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder Pinch of Salt

Methods

Baking Cookies

1. Cream together your butter and icing sugar in your electric mixer.
2. Next add your egg and vanilla and beat well until smooth.
3. In a separate bowl sift your flour, baking powder and salt.
4. Set your mixer at a low speed and slowly add the flour mix 1⁄4 cup at a time to your butter mix.
5. When the dough is ready it will be soft but not stick to your fingers. Rest it for 10 minutes to firm up. It does not need to be refrigerated.
6. Roll out 5mm thick on baking paper and use flour for dusting if you feel it’s necessary. Cut your shapes and bake at 190c fan forced oven for 8 mins or until lightly golden.
7. Cool and store in an airtight container in the cupboard or in the freezer.

 

Decorate Cookies

Mix Red Colour with Icing, draw the outline of the flower

Then fill the petals with the remaining red icing

Wait for it to dry then redraw the flower outline

Pipe the flower stigma with black icing and Mondo tip #233

Add OTT Black Sanding Sugar to the flower stigma for extra sparkle

Pipe the yellow stigma with yellow icing

Add OTT Sparkling White Dust for extra shine
